Done with your GMAT? What next?

The MBA Application process is different for different universities. Therefore it becomes important for the candidate to go through the official website of each university that they are applying to and check the procedure involved in the selection. There are some common aspects across most colleges, as discussed below. A basic selection process by various top-ranked universities includes a Personal Interview round.

After you receive your GMAT score and match them with the general ranges that respective colleges have, you need to start working on the other components of your application.

Step 1

After your GMAT score is known, your score can be forwarded to institutes of your choice. If you send your score to more universities, you can do so at the GMAC website – www.mba.com

Step 2

Based on your GMAT score, you can shortlist various MBA programs and put in your applications.  Your application will be evaluated based on the statement of purpose, application form, interview, and the letters of recommendation.

Step 3

Strong essays, an attractive profile, and a valuable letter of recommendation will enhance your MBA application.

Key aspects to keep in mind

Some key aspects to keep in mind for the perfect MBA application are:

Work Experience

The top B-Schools of the world look for candidates who have an impressive career graph and can make most of their MBA program with their decision-making skills, leadership skills, and management responsibilities. They look for team players, who can lead by example. Work experience sometimes becomes the deciding factor for most B-Schools.

Extracurricular activities

Business Schools also give importance to extracurricular activities. While several extracurricular activities are very common, universities look for how you have grown as a person and contributed to the community through your extracurricular activities.

Letters of Recommendation

Colleges have a holistic process to evaluate applicants. They seek to understand the all-round development of the student and not solely rely on grades and test scores. One way to understand this is by reading recommendation letters from workplace supervisors. An excellent recommendation letter should speak about your personal qualities, strengths and interests, and some goals and visions for the future. A positive recommendation letter ensures that you as a student will add value to the college campus and society in the future.

Strong essays

Well written essays can help convince the admission committee of your capabilities and goals, in a way that doesn’t seem boastful. The Goals essay is not by any means a written version of the resume or CV. The Goals Essay should not only talk about past work, achievements, and learning but also about why a candidate is interested in pursuing an MBA. Most essays turn out to be similar is format, tonality, and flow making them irrelevant to the admission committee. A unique goals essay that stands out and genuinely makes a statement is the way to go ahead.

Throughout your application process, make sure you have certain documents at hand. Your GMAT scorecard, college certificate and transcripts are important.
